Global Market Size, Forecast, and Trend Highlights Over 2024-2036

Biogas Compression Market size is poised to cross USD 37 billion by the end of 2036, growing at a CAGR of 9% during the forecast period, i.e., 2024-2036. In the year 2023, the industry size of biogas compression was over 4 billion. The significant demand for biogas for the production of other gases in the world will be the major driver of the biogas compression market. Generated through anaerobic digestion or zymosis of natural components, biogas provides a versatile energy source that typically contains 50-70% methane, 30-50% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. Thus, biogas is the amalgamation of several gases and oil at the same time and turning to be valuable for the users.

The world is backing the biogas compression market expansion with multiple policies and forming concerns about biofuels and biogas in developing countries. This factor is propelling the development of the global biogas market over the forecast timeline. Moreover, globally the biogas compression is taken as an essential subject and making a lot of reformation to their energy acts to enhance the efficiency and production of biogas. Along with this, the growing investor interest in biogas capacities is also a powerful driver of the market. The Green Gas Support initiative (GGSS) is the official initiative that has been developed to encourage investment in new biogas plants. Tariffs are guaranteed for 15 years if the gas is effectively developed.

Biogas Compression Market: Growth Drivers and Challenges

Market-Growth-Drivers

Growth Drivers

  • The Increasing Demand for Biogas as a Substitute For Oil - The increasing tendency towards biogas to mitigate habituation on oil and manage renewability can have an excellent effect on the biogas compression market. One of the main benefits of biogas and biomethane is their sustainable nature. Unlike fossil fuels, they are acquired from organic matter and can be persistently generated as long as the natural feedstock is attainable. Moreover, they are adaptable energy sources that can be implemented for several applications, comprising electricity production, heating, and transportation. Similarly the hiked price of fossil fuels because of scarcity is driving the demand for bio-fuels or biogas which is comparatively cheaper. As stated in the World Energy Outlook, high fossil fuel expenses were the primary factor for ascending pressure on international electricity prices, giving reason for 90% of the hike in the average costs of electricity production globally.
  • Advancement and Modernization of Biogas - The developing intelligence about the high-energy methane gas, a modernized version of biogas, has brought many opportunities for the biogas demand. For instance, Purified biomethane has equivalent materials as natural gas and also works as a highly effective and eco-friendly fuel for natural gas cars or natural gas grids. Resilience and simpleness in the function of biogas compression techniques make biomethane a more efficient and realistic solution for implementation in different industries.
  • Increased Need for Curbing Greenhouse Gas Emissions - The augmented demand for clean, non-toxic energy sources to match the emerging energy requirements that are environmentally harmless is pushing the demand for biogas. The all-out concentration on clean energy to mitigate Green greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will boost the demand for biogas. Several programs are been designed to develop the quantity of greener energy that could be implemented in homes and automobiles to minimize the emissions. In line with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), biogas as vehicle fuel can curb greenhouse gas excretions by about 60% to 80%, in contrast to fossil-depended fuels.

Challenges

  • The Scarcity of Raw Elements and the Problem in Machines - There is a stop on bioenergy anticipated due to the limitations affecting travel, work, industrial processes, and logistics & transportation. Furthermore, the scarcity of raw materials, elements, and technical assistance has negatively influenced the biogas market share. Moreover, in many countries, the compost of the livestock farms is not utilized effectively and the energy supply of the farms relies primarily on centrally produced gas and electricity. The appropriate portrayal of trash is an imperative technique for efficient component recovery while in developing countries, recyclable trash is coupled with general waste because of the lack of knowledge about trash. Sometimes, the biogas plant collapses because of small technical issues due to the scarcity of ownership and devotion to backing the biogas plant.
  • Lack of Workforce Dedicated to the Production of Biogas
  • Rising Levels of Global Warming is Reducing the Efficacy of Biogas

Biogas Compression Segmentation

Feedstock (Bio-municipal Waste, Agriculture Remains, Energy Crops)

The bio-municipal waste segment is estimated to account for 55% share of the global biogas compression market by 2036 growing at a significant CAGR over the forecast time frame. The growth of the segment is due to the large amount of municipal waste generated globally, which may be implemented as a feedstock for the formation of biogas acquired from the trash. Initiated by the World Biogas Association (WBA) on March 29, 2021, the “Biogas: Pathways to 2030” report discovers how, by 2030, relevant arrangement of all bio-municipal can offer a minimization in the amount of these wastes, primarily food garbage, which would itself cut international emissions by 3 percent, and; the transformation of the certain natural wastes into worthy biogas, which would cut international greenhouse gas (GHG) discharges by a further 10 percent.  The bio-municipal garbage comprises newspapers, clothing, furniture, bottles, cans, food, and appliances.

Application (Electricity Generation, Heat Generation, Transportation, Upgraded Biogas)

The electricity generation segment overpowered the biogas compression market with a share of around 31% by the forecast timeline. The increasing use of biogas in power generation is anticipated to boost the segment growth in the market. The world has understood the significance of biogas compression specifically in the electric power sector, thus, has substantially developed biogas utilization for electricity production. In fact, according to IEA’s report in 2022, sustainable energies will become the largest source of international electricity generation by early 2025, exceeding coal. Their share of the power mix is anticipated to boost by 10 percentage points over the expected timeline, extending 38% in 2027. Moreover, the conversion in different countries towards gas-depended powerplants from coal-depended powerplants is anticipated to drive the desire for biogas for electricity generation over the forecast period.
