In the News

  • SharpCell, a Finnish producer of nonwoven textiles, has launched an air-laid fabric that is plastic and fossil-free for premium napkins. The production process, developed in collaboration with OrganoClick, replaces the fossil fuel-based binder with a bio-based binder derived from raw materials originating from waste streams in the food industry, such as wheat, corn, lemons, and shrimp shells. According to SharpCell, when fully implemented, the fabric can replace more than a thousand tons of fossil binder, while maintaining the soft hand feel and textile feel of an airlaid material. In line with the Finnish Government's goal of becoming a fossil-free nation by the year 2035, a 100% fossil-free material is also an option.
  • In Andritz's view, the acquisition will further extend and strengthen its portfolio of products and services in the field of nonwoven fabrics. Andritz, for many years, has cooperated with DanWebritz in supplying airlaid systems to complete production lines.
