Infrared cannot pass through glass or water, for instance, resembling the effectiveness of thermal cameras in applications where observing through windscreens or seeing items submerged underwater is required. These are areas where such a limitation has consequences in places like the monitoring of traffic, where clear visibility of the condition of vehicles is paramount.
