Enzymatic Cleaning Market size is estimated to reach USD 3 Billion by the end of 2036, growing at a CAGR of 6% during the forecast period, i.e., 2024-2036. In the year 2023, the industry size of enzymatic cleaning was USD 2 Billion. The growth of the market can be attributed to the rising demand for environment-friendly cleaning agents. Water contamination caused by chemicals is a major global concern. Many surfactants, such as phosphorus and nitrogen used in traditional products biodegrade slowly or transform into more hazardous, stubborn, and bio-accumulative compounds, posing harm to aquatic life. As a result, the requirement for clean enzymes becomes even more pressing. The concentration of phosphate salts in most of the laundry detergents is between 35% and 75%.
In addition to these, factors that are believed to fuel the growth of enzymatic cleaning market include the rising use of enzyme cleaners in several industries for lowering carbon emissions. Over the next three decades, greenhouse gas emissions are predicted to rise from 36.2 to 60 gigatonnes. Since 2001, the global surface temperature has risen by 1.09°C, and it is expected to rise by +2.2°C in 2100, +3.6°C in 2200, and +4.6°C in 2500. These emissions and temperature rise cannot be eliminated, however, they can be controlled by employing enzymes. Since 3.8 billion years ago, enzymes have been proteins that catalyze metabolic events that allow life to exist. Scientists have been able to purify enzymes and their modified versions to the point that they are now significant players in the circular economy. They can reduce CO2 emissions by 1-2.5 billion tonnes per year, with a global production of 117 kilo-tons and a trade of around USD 15 billion.
