September 9, 2020: A new line of Automotive Grade DC-Link metallized polypropylene film capacitors designed for extreme humidity conditions was unveiled by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Vishay's first line of AEC-Q200 approved DC-Link film capacitors, the Roederstein MKP1848H DC-Link, can endure temperature humidity bias (THB) testing, which involves holding the capacitor at 85 °C and 85% relative humidity for 1000 hours at rated voltage, without experiencing any changes to its electrical properties.

That is, until the most recent innovations made by the producers of the film and the KEMET Corporation capacitor production method. The PP film capacitors can meet even more rigorous standards, like the AEC-Q200's "Temperature Humidity Bias Accelerated Life Test" and the most recent IEC-60384-14 standard, which calls for components to withstand 85°C with 85% relative humidity at rated voltage for 1,000 hours, by raising the PP dielectric temperature capability to 125°C and providing special epoxy resin protection. Because of these developments, PP film capacitors are now competitively priced for use in high-reliability, green energy, EV/HV, and industrial markets, as well as modern automobile designs.
